Defence news today includes an update on RAF strikes against Daesh, and reporting on former military personnel who served in Northern Ireland.

RAF air strikes

The Daily Mirror today updates on air strikes carried about by the RAF against Daesh in Iraq and Syria, reporting that an RAF Reaper carried out a precision strike in East Syria to protect a refugee convoy from Daesh members planting an improvised explosive device.

Northern Ireland

The Telegraph on its front page reports on issues around former military personnel who served in Northern Ireland.

A Government spokesperson said:

 The welfare of our personnel and veterans is of the utmost importance and we provide legal and pastoral support to any veteran who requires it.

This includes paying for all legal fees and providing a dedicated military team to offer support and advice to veterans.

It would be inappropriate to comment on individual cases.

Royal Navy rescuing British nationals in Libya

The Daily Mail follows up reporting from yesterday on HMS Enterprise rescuing British nationals in 2014 from Libya, during heavy fighting in the country.

A Government spokesperson said:

During the deteriorating security situation in Libya in 2014, Border Force officials were deployed to assist with the evacuation of British Nationals and their dependents.
